Accidents whilst on Holiday

Going on holiday, whether it is within the UK or abroad is something that we all look forwards to. Holidays represent relaxation and trying activities that you have never done before they should not represent the start of a law suit. However sadly accidents whilst we are on holiday do happen and often have serious consequences.

There are many different factors that can cause an accident to occur whist you are enjoying your holiday. Some of the most common accidents to happen whilst you are on holiday are food poisoning, illness due to poor hygienic standards, road traffic accidents and injury sustained whilst in the hotel. Other accidents that can occur are water related accidents, sporting accidents and slip, trip or falls due to uneven paving or poor conditions around the pool area within a hotel.

Having an accident whilst on holiday could leave you with devastating personal injury. Head injury and back injury as well as spinal injury and fractured or broken bones are just a handful of personal injury that you could be facing after sustaining an accident whilst on holiday.

A lot of people often feel that they cannot claim compensation as they feel that they have to claim compensation in the country that the accident occurred in. This is however not true. Claims for compensation after accidents that occur abroad can be pursued in the UK.

If you have become the victim of a personal injury whilst abroad on holiday you could be entitled to compensation. As with all compensation claims there are certain steps that should be taken after the accident occurs. These include reporting the accident, injury or illness to the staff of the facility that you are in when the accident, injury or illness happens. You should also request to write the details of the accident, injury or illness in the accident book of which ever venue you are in. As well as this you should make a note of the names and addresses of any witnesses.

If you do wish to make a claim for compensation you need to prove that your travel agent, hotel staff etc are at fault and that your accident, injury or illness should have been avoided.

If your holiday was part of a package from a travel agent that included travel and accommodation then you could bring a compensation claim against the travel agent if your accident, injury or illness occurred whilst travelling to your destination or whilst you were staying at your hotel.
