Road Traffic Accidents

Road traffic accidents are a sign of the times. Every morning between 8 and 9 the emergency services are called out to accidents where a school child has been knocked down by a car. Throughout the rest of the day the ambulances are on call and more often than not called out to road traffic accidents of some sorts. 145 people are killed a year from hit and run, 2000 a year are hit from hit and run and someone is killed every 91 hours caused by hit and run drivers.

As you can see road traffic accidents are very common. More and more people experience a crash or accident at some point in their driving life. Getting away with a few cuts and bruises or mild whiplash is fortunate but many people suffer much more sever injuries and take weeks to recover.

If you have just recently or within the last 3 years been involved in a read traffic accident that was not your fault then you will be entitled to claim compensation for your suffering. Many people who have suffered due to injuries caused by a road traffic accident don't put in for a claim. These people may be scared of legal fees and worried about the stress that might be involved. They are missing out on recovering damages for their pain and suffering. If you were a pedestrian, a passenger in a car, the driver of a car or were involved in any other way with a road traffic accident and suffered as a result then you have the legal right to sue for damages.

There are many accident claim firms about nowadays. You only have to do a search on the internet and you will find hundreds of these firms. Generally they all work under "CFA" agreements or better known as "No Win No Fee" agreements. These came about in 1999 when legal aid was dropped for personal injury claims. In its place came these CFA agreements which are a lot fairer as it means anyone who has had a road traffic accident can put in a claim for compensation. The old public funding of Legal Aid was means tested which meant that only the unemployed or lower incomes would be entitled to funding. People that didn't qualify had to find their own legal fees for themselves and knowing that solicitors don't come cheap a lot of people would not try to claim for their damages.

Now with "no win no fee" agreements anybody of any background and financial status can enlist the work of a solicitor or lawyer to claim accident compensation. So if you or anyone you know has suffered as a result of a road traffic accident you can claim for damages without any cost to yourself.

As well as physical pain and suffering there is also mental and emotional pain and suffering. Maybe your face was severely disfigured because of the road traffic accident and now cannot face going out and being seen by others. You may not suffered a great deal of physical pain but mental and emotional pain in just as bad if not worse. The amount of damages you are entitled to will depend on the severity of your suffering. If the pain was minimal but the emotional pain was a lot more severe then this will get taken into consideration when working out your compensation award.
