Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a medical condition in which the median nerve is compressed at the wrist. It is also sometimes known as Median Neuropathy at the Wrist. The condition can lead to pain, paresthesias, and muscle weakness in the forearm and hand.

Other symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome include:

  • Numbness
  • Tingling
  • Pain in the thumb and fingers
  • Weakened grip

These symptoms often get worse at night and may also be noticed more while you are still in your working environment. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can be brought on by a number of different aspects and repetitive motions are just one of them. If you are working in a job that involves repetitive moments of the wrist, i.e. office worker, then precautions should be in place to ensure Carpal Tunnel Syndrome doesn’t cause a problem. Aspects such as regular breaks and the right shaped and supportive furniture should be in place if your work involves the risk of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is caused by the compression of the median nerve. It is a multi-faceted problem and can therefore be challenging to treat; however there are a large number of possible treatments, including; immobilising braces, physiotherapy, massage therapy, anti-inflammatory and hand activities.
