Dermatitis Compensation Claims

Dermatitis is a term that describes the inflammation of the skin and there are several different types of dermatitis with the most common being eczema. Usually all the different forms of dermatitis have a common allergic reaction, which is specific to allergens.

Dermatitis is one of the major occupational skin diseases and is caused by a person coming into contact with a hazardous agent. Dermatitis is caused by the exposure to a physical, chemical or biological agent or when a mechanical force has been the cause or played a major role in the development of the disease. To put it simply an occupational skin disease is a disease wholly or partially due to a person’s occupation.

There are many ways that can cause the on set of Dermatitis including:

  • Immersing hands/legs into chemicals
  • Direct handling of contaminated work pieces
  • Contact with contaminated surfaces (e.g. workbench, tools, clothing and containers)
  • Splashing (e.g. when liquid or powdery chemicals are mixed or handled
  • In deposits in the air (e.g. cement dust)

Dermatitis is caused when substances penetrate the skin and outer layers of the skin become damaged. Some of the symptoms of dermatitis are a slight redness with a mild inflammation/severe inflammation as well as redness, itching and skin blistering/cracking. If the condition becomes chronic (long-term), the skin will be dry, inflamed, and scaly and thickened

If you have suffered from dermatitis in the past three years due to your occupation then you may be entitled to compensation. It is the responsibility of your employer to ensure that you are safe whilst undertaking your work; failure to do this can leave them liable for compensation claims.

If your life has been altered due to dermatitis or you have lost independence or been left out of work as a result of it then contact Accident Consultant today and speak to one of our lawyers/solicitors about your rights to make a claim for compensation.
