Occupational Lung Disease

Occupational Lung Disease is a disease which is caused by something you come into contact with at work. There are many ways in which substances you come into contact with at work can affect you. Some may affect the tubes that carry the air in and out of the lungs and others may affect the tiny air sacs in which oxygen is transferred into the blood from the air that we breathe.

Occupational Lung Disease is caused by exposure to aspects such as dusts or grasses, which includes aspects such as coal dust, silica and asbestos. In many cases the symptoms of occupational lung disease don’t show up until years later when by that time you may already be suffering aspects such as asthma or even cancer.

If you do suspect that you are suffering as a result of Occupational Lung Disease you must talk to your GP. You should give them as much detail as you can about your symptoms, your job and the materials that you work with. You will almost always need to see a lung specialist at a hospital for a full diagnosis. They will do some tests, which may include a chest X-ray, blood tests, and detailed lung function tests.

It is highly important that you do find out if you are suffering from Occupational Lung Disease. The reason for this is because if you carry on working with the cause of your illness, then you may have permanent problems.

It is the duty of your employer to make sure that your workplace is safe and that your working environment will not cause you any harm, if this fails then your employer is left liable to a compensation claim being brought against them.

If you are suffering from an Occupational Lung Disease then you could be entitled to compensation. Here at Accident Consultant we are experts in all aspects of personal injury accident claims.
